Wichita Humidity: How Whole-Home Humidifiers and Dehumidifiers Work

Whole-home humidity control means equipment mounted on your HVAC ductwork — a humidifier that adds moisture in winter, a dehumidifier that removes it in summer — holding your house in the healthy 30–50% relative-humidity band automatically. How does a whole-home dehumidifier work?

A ducted dehumidifier ties into the return side of your system and pulls moisture out of the airstream independently of the AC. The dehumidifier drains automatically to a floor drain or condensate pump; there's no tank to empty.

What indoor humidity should I target in winter?

30–40% in a Kansas winter. Push much higher when it's very cold outside and you'll see condensation on windows — the glass is telling you to dial the humidistat down.

Will a whole-home humidifier cause mold?

Not when it's set correctly and serviced — the humidistat caps output well below mold territory, and the water panel is replaced seasonally. The mold risk lives in neglected portable units and chronically damp basements, not maintained ducted equipment.

Can't my AC dehumidify the house by itself?

While it's running, yes — cooling naturally removes moisture. The gap is mild, humid weather when the AC barely runs. That's exactly the condition a dedicated dehumidifier covers.

Do these systems work with any furnace or air handler?

Most ducted systems can host them, but placement, drainage, and control wiring vary by installation — that's why we quote after looking at your equipment, not over the phone.

How much maintenance do they need?
